Dedicated to inspiring the addict who still suffers and challenging stigma.
The Detox Factor CIC was born out of lived experience. Co-founded by JP Chapman and Cara Cox, it began with a simple idea: that recovery could be creative, inspiring, and rooted in real stories. Both founders brought unique strengths — JP with his skills in production, filming, audio, and technical work, and Cara with her theatre background, directing, and creative vision.
From the very beginning, The Detox Factor was more than just a name — it was a vision. JP’s ability to capture and produce high-quality films, music, and digital content gave people a platform for their voices, while Cara’s direction and artistry shaped those raw expressions into powerful, moving projects. Together, they built a space where creativity and recovery could come together to inspire change.
One of the initiatives was Lyrical Awakening, a programme where participants could write, record, and perform their own words over music, then see them transformed into a professional video production. This blended self-expression with technical skill-building, giving people a sense of pride and ownership.
The Detox Factor quickly grew, becoming involved in major events like RecoverFest, the Recovery Street Film Festival, and collaborations with lived experience recovery organisations (LEROs) across Staffordshire and beyond. Alongside the creative work, it became a place where people could volunteer, gain skills, and contribute to something bigger than themselves.
Today, The Detox Factor CIC stands as a hub for recovery, creativity, and transformation — producing films, music, live performances, and community projects that prove recovery is not just about surviving, but about thriving.
